Bangladesh women’s cricket team beat Pakistan by five wickets in the third-place play-off match to clinch the bronze medal in the Hangzhou Asian Games today.
The Nigar Sultana Joty-led side restricted Pakistan to 64 for 9 in 20 overs and then achieved the target with ten balls to spare to settle for a bronze at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket field.
Bangladesh, who had won silver medals twice in 2010 and 2014 Asian Games, bowlers did excellent job after winning the toss. Marufa Akter took one wicket but conceded only two runs in three overs. Shorna Akhter was most successful bowler with three for 16 runs and Sanjida Akhter claimed two for 11 runs.
Shorna then also contributed with the bat as she remained not out on 14 as the Tigresses reached the target with five wickets in hand despite batting wobble in the middle.
