Bangladesh ODI captain Shakib Al Hasan has communicated to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that he does not want half-fit players in the squad for the World Cup, a BCB source has told The Daily Star.
At midnight, Shakib and coach Chandika Hathurusingha went to BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon’s residence for a meeting in a night of drama, fuelled by many rumours being floated in by the media. Logically, one might have assumed that with coach Chandika arriving late at night yesterday, the World Cup squad would be discussed. It was however a very different kind of discussion at the BCB president’s house.
According to BCB sources, Shakib wants to step down from captaincy as he does not want half-fit players. It is understood that Tamim Iqbal’s current injury situation and his imminent inclusion in the World Cup squad has fuelled such a decision.
