Former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak officially responded to the fake news surrounding his death that took the social media by storm today.Â
The ailing former pace bowler also demanded an apology from the source for spreading the fake news.
“It is a total rumour and a lie. I’m alive and well. I am very upset to learn that something as big as someone apparently passing can be spread unverified especially in our day and age of social media, I believe the source should apologise. I am hurt by the news,” Streak, 49, who is fighting a battle against liver cancer, told Mid-Day on Wednesday morning.
After multiple media early in the morning ran the news that former all-rounder had passed away, Streak has now confirmed he is alive.
Just hours after confirming the news, Streak’s former national teammate Henry Olonga claimed the news to be false and “exaggerated”.Â
“I can confirm that rumours of the demise of Heath Streak have been greatly exaggerated. Â I just heard from him. The third umpire has called him back. He is very much alive folks,” Olonga said in his message on X, formerly known as Twitter, along with a screenshot of a conversation presumably between Streak and Olonga.
