Surrey Jaguars, featuring Liton Das of Bangladesh, registered their second win in the ongoing Global T20 Canada league as they beat Mississauga Panthers by a comfortable margin of 55 runs in Brampton on Friday.
With five points from two wins in four games, Surrey Jaguars moved to third position in the league table, just behind Shakib Al Hasan’s Montreal Tigers, who remain second with six points from four matches.
After being sent to bat, Surrey Jaguars posted a commendable 164 for six in 20 overs before restricting the Panthers to 109 in 17 overs.
Playing for the first time in the franchise-based league, Liton had the best outing so far this season. Coming to bat at number three, the wicketkeeper-batter of Bangladesh scored a 30-ball 25, featuring a four and a six. He also starred in a crucial 74-run second-wicket stand with opener Jatinder Singh to set the tone for a competitive total for Surrey Jaguars.
Jatinder scored a 45-ball 57, and was named player of the match for his efforts. Alex Hales of England scored a quickfire 21-ball 39 to help Surrey Jaguars’ cause.
Later in the second innings, Liton also effected the stumping of James Neesham off a Sandeep Lamichhane delivery.
Lamichhane remained the pick of the bowlers for Surrey Jaguars, picking up three for 18 in three overs.
